About

Beauty is everywhere.

Miami Color Theory is a photography project by award-winning artist and graphic designer Laura Paresky Gould. The series, shot on an iPhone and posted daily to Instagram, focuses on the colors, lines, and shapes of Miami’s built environment, and encourages the practice of seeing to appreciate the beauty all around us. Her book, SEEING DIFFERENTLY: MIAMI COLOR THEORY (Tra Publishing, 2023) and video series for The Bass, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum, focus on minimal photography and include engaging lessons on art and perception. Gould discovers hidden delights in even the smallest of details, creating a feeling of joy, and spurring viewers to capture the visual treats in their own surroundings.

Laura Paresky Gould is a graphic designer, animator, photographer, fine artist and entrepreneur based in Miami Beach.

In January 2021, just before Adobe Flash was removed from all major browsers, she recorded a keepsake copy of her vintage portfolio of animations, logo designs and saturated colorful photos captured on film. She decided to start shooting architecture and inanimate objects again, only this time with an iPhone. She posts these images onto her Instagram account @miamicolortheory.

After posting daily for six weeks, Italy’s FrizziFrizzi Magazine wrote an article about the Instagram series. A year later, Apple featured a series of her minimal images, and in June, @miamicolortheory was named “Best Instagram” in the Miami New Times “Best of Miami 2022” issue. Her three-part educational video series “Seeing Differently” for The Bass Museum of Art launched in September 2022.

She was selected as one of 12 artists for No Vacancy 2023 to create a site-specific work at an iconic Miami Beach hotel, displaying three photo installations at the Royal Palm South Beach Hotel during Art Basel 2023, sponsored by The City of Miami Beach, in collaboration with the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA).

Her book SEEING DIFFERENTLY: MIAMI COLOR THEORY was published in November 2023. At her book signing events at The Bass and at Books & Books, she gave talks about her work in conversations with James Voorhies, the curator from The Bass. In conjunction with her book signing at Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), she displayed a video created for their east portico LED screen.

Prior to @miamicolortheory, she designed internationally award-winning motion graphics for Nike, E! Entertainment Television, CBS, and NBC earning her numerous accolades including Gold Broadcast Designer Awards, a Telly Award, a New York Festival Award, Type Director’s Club Awards, and an Art Director’s Club Award. She also designed logo identities for numerous corporations across the country. Her fine artwork appears in museums as well as public and private collections worldwide, and she held three solo exhibits during Art Basel Miami Beach.

Her photographs have appeared in numerous national publications, including The New York Times, USA Today, The Miami Herald, Elle, Esquire, Vogue, Elle-Décor, GQ, Architecture, Interiors, Miami Home & Décor, Ocean Drive, How, New York Magazine, Upper and Lower Case, Communication Arts Photography Annual, and the cover of Palm Beach Illustrated.

Gould was the Design Director for Ocean Drive Magazine, taught Typography at Miami Ad School, created a personalized product e-commerce company, and founded Twain Creative, a boutique identity design firm. She has also created pro-bono designs for national non-profits, and was the recipient of the Design Center of the Americas’ Star of Design Award for Graphic Design.

She graduated from Duke University with degrees in art and art history and received a master’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
